The Essence of the Tiffany Circle

The Tiffany Circle is a Society of Women Leaders and Philanthropists from different parts of America who form a leadership network to strengthen the local chapters of the American Red Cross. The $10,000 that each member contributes annually goes directly to the local chapter where much of the day to day work of saving lives is accomplished. Tiffany Circle members believe in the Mission of the Red Cross and endorse the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which are listed in the brochure: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.

  • The idea for the Tiffany Circle came from the beautiful Tiffany Windows that were commissioned by Red Cross President Mabel Boardman after the end of the Civil War.  The Women’s Relief Corps of the North and the Daughters of the Confederacy of the South each donated $5,000 to pay for the windows.  Current members are asked to recognize this symbolic act of reconciliation and hope with their $10,000 donations.
  • When donors contribute to the Red Cross in a time of disaster, the dollars do not stay at the local chapter.  The chapters often struggle to come up with the funds to respond to house fires, floods or other emergencies that develop in the local community.
  • The Tiffany Circle Steering Committee and the Local Chapter CEO and Staff decide where their need is greatest and where the Tiffany Circle dollars will go within the local community.
  • Tiffany Circle Founding Members will have their names listed on a beautiful plaque in their local chapters and will be invited to a very special two day annual recognition event in June. This recognition event will be hosted by Bonnie McElveen–Hunter, our Chairman of the Board, and feature prominent speakers.
  • Details- Donors who make a pledge by May 1, 2010 will be recognized as a member for 2010. The $10,000 pledge is due by the end of the fiscal year in June. Men and women may pay tribute to those in their lives by giving a gift of $10,000 in honor or memory of a mother, daughter, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, or other significant women leaders.
  • Through the Annual Recognition Event in Washington and events at the local chapters, the Tiffany Circle will create a Community of Philanthropists who want to make a difference locally, nationally and internationally to help those in need.
